Florida Politics: “Allison Tant clears $130K for state House bid”

“I am beyond grateful for the early support my campaign continues to receive.”

Former Florida Democratic Party chair Allison Tant has raised more than $130,000 since entering the racefor Leon County’s House District 9 six weeks ago.

“I am beyond grateful for the early support my campaign continues to receive. I am running for the state legislature for one simple reason: to get things done for our community,” Tant said in a news release.

“I am ready, and eager to work on important issues for our area like investing in our schools, passing meaningful gun safety measures and ensuring Floridians have access to the healthcare they need. Over the next few months, we will be meeting with residents and hosting house parties so I can listen directly from our community on their priorities.”

Tant’s fundraising total includes $67,625 in hard money raised last month as well as $1,131 raised through her new political committee, People First Leadership for Florida.

The February haul follows a strong performance in January.

The campaign total includes more than two dozen checks for $1,000, the maximum allowable campaign donation for state House races. Max donors included lobbying firm Gunster, HCA of North Florida, the Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association and Sachs Media Group. The committee report included a $1,000 check from a political committee tied to the Florida Professional Firefighters.

In all, Tant says she has received contributions from more than 450 individual donors. That figure includes some March contribs, as her committee report and two campaign reports show about 340 contributions between them.

Tant filed for HD 9 in mid-January after current state Rep. Loranne Ausley announced she would forego a third term in order to run for Sen. Bill Montford’s District 3 seat in 2020. Montford cannot run for re-election due to term limits.

Currently, Tant is the only candidate running for HD 9. The district has a strong Democratic advantage.
