Thanks to recent redistricting, Madison and Jefferson counties will now be in HD 9 — the district I am proud to represent in the Florida House.
I’m so excited to get out into the community and get to know all of you a bit better — I want to hear what your top concerns are, and what I can do as your representative to help!
In the interest of fairness, I’ll tell you a bit about myself too.
I grew up working class — my mother was one of eight children, and spent her childhood in poverty, picking fruit and tobacco for pennies. My father was a soldier, inspired to enlist by the events of Pearl Harbor.
From my parents, I learned the importance of hard work and grit, and what it means to stand up for those who can’t stand up for themselves.
I have three wonderful children, and my own journey with motherhood made me who I am today. When my son, Jeremy, was born with a complex physical, developmental, and cognitive disability called Williams Syndrome, I began a new career in advocacy for disabled children.
I’ve fought tirelessly for reforms to pre-K and K-12 education policy, working to provide improved therapeutic and assessment services for students with disabilities.
I strongly believe those without a voice or facing great odds can and should have a fair and fighting chance to build a good life for themselves and their families.
And when it comes to getting things done, I’m not interested in party politics.
I’ve worked across the aisle to pass major bipartisan bills, co-sponsored 50 successful pieces of legislation, fought back against cuts to funding for public hospitals, protected local control of Jefferson County schools, cracked down against retail theft that harms small businesses, and allocated more resources to Sheriff’s departments in Jefferson and Madison Counties.
I look forward to hearing from you about your top priorities and how I can advocate for you!
Thank you,
— Representative Allison Tant
